Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between gross salary and net salary?⌄
Gross salary is the total amount agreed between employer and employee before any deductions. Net salary (take-home pay) is what the employee actually receives after income tax, social security, and other mandatory employee-side deductions are subtracted. The employer's total cost is always higher than gross salary because the employer also pays its own social security and payroll contributions on top.
Why is the employer's total cost higher than the gross salary?⌄
In almost every country, employers must pay mandatory contributions on top of the employee's gross salary — such as employer-side social security, pension, health insurance, provident fund, payroll tax, or other statutory levies. These vary widely by country: India adds ~15–20%, Germany adds ~21%, France adds ~40–45%, while UAE and Saudi Arabia add near zero for expat workers.
How accurate are these estimates?⌄
This calculator uses the latest publicly available statutory rates for each country. However, actual costs can vary depending on the employee's personal circumstances, state/regional variations, industry-specific rules, optional benefits, and annual changes to tax legislation. Treat these as directional estimates — for exact numbers, get a StratEdge EOR quote.
What does an EOR (Employer of Record) do for me?⌄
An EOR like StratEdge Global becomes the legal employer of your international team members. We handle all statutory registrations, payroll processing, tax filings, employment contracts, and compliance — so you get the talent without needing a local entity in each country.
Does StratEdge Global support all the countries in this calculator?⌄
StratEdge Global's Employer of Record service covers India and 15+ countries, for companies hiring from anywhere in the world. For other countries in this calculator, we can often help through our partner network and managed services. Book a free call to check availability for your country.
* All figures are estimates based on publicly available statutory rates. India, the Philippines, Vietnam, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Mexico, Brazil, China, Colombia and South Africa reflect 2026 rules (India: FY 2026-27 new tax regime and Labour Codes); rates for other countries were last reviewed in June 2025. Actual employer costs and employee take-home pay may differ. Not financial or legal advice.

EOR cost explained

How much does an employer of record cost?

The total cost of hiring through an employer of record (EOR) has three parts: the employee’s gross salary, the employer’s statutory contributions in that country, and the EOR service fee. Salary and statutory costs are set by the market and by local law, so they are the same whichever provider you choose. The EOR fee is where providers differ, and where hidden extras tend to appear.

Total monthly cost = gross salary + employer contributions + EOR fee ($349 to $749)

EOR pricing models

EOR pricing models explained: flat fee vs percentage of payroll

Flat fee per employee

One fixed monthly fee per employee, whatever the salary. Easy to budget, and the model StratEdge Global uses.

Percentage of payroll

A fee calculated as a share of each salary, so the cost rises every time you give a raise. Common with staffing agencies.

Custom quotes

Pricing agreed case by case. Flexible, but harder to compare across providers before you commit.

EOR hidden fees

EOR hidden fees: what to check before you sign

Security deposits

Some providers ask for a deposit before your first payroll. StratEdge: no deposit.

Percentage-of-payroll markups

A fee that grows with salary. StratEdge: one flat fee per employee.

Benefits sold as add-ons

Health insurance, equipment or recognition charged extra. StratEdge: core benefits included.

Support tiers

A named manager only on enterprise plans. StratEdge: a dedicated experience manager for every client.

Lock-in contracts

Annual commitments that are hard to exit. StratEdge: month to month, no lock-in.

Currency conversion margins

Hidden spreads when local payroll is funded. Ask every provider which exchange rate they use. StratEdge invoices in USD.

FAQ

EOR pricing FAQs: cost, fees and contracts

Answers to the questions founders ask most about employer of record cost.

The total cost is the employee’s gross salary, plus the employer’s statutory contributions in that country, plus the EOR fee. StratEdge Global’s EOR fee is flat: $349 (EMBARK), $549 (ENHANCED) or $749 (ELEVATE) per employee, per month. Use the global hiring cost calculator on this page for a country-by-country estimate.

StratEdge’s EOR fee in India starts at $349 per employee, per month. On top of salary, statutory employer costs are typically about 5–10% for professional roles (Provident Fund on wages up to ₹25,000 a month, EDLI and gratuity accrual), and higher for lower salaries covered by ESI and statutory bonus.

StratEdge charges a flat fee per employee, per month, not a percentage of payroll. Your EOR fee stays the same when you give a raise, so it is easy to budget as your team grows.

EMBARK includes payroll processing, health insurance, KnowBe4 security training, a dedicated experience manager, an engagement and recognition program, software and timesheet access, and a welcome kit.

For a small team, an EOR is usually cheaper and faster, because you avoid entity registration, local directors, accounting and annual compliance filings. An entity can make sense once you have a large, stable team in one country. Our India EOR cost calculator compares both.

No deposit is required. Invoices are issued monthly by StratEdge Global LLC in USD and are payable within 10 business days.

As fast as 48 hours once the offer is accepted and documents are in. Timelines can be longer where a country requires extra registrations or background checks.

Yes. If your hire moves from remote to office-based work, or needs extra compliance support, talk to your experience manager about moving to ENHANCED or ELEVATE.

There is no annual lock-in. Plans run month to month. The employee’s statutory notice and final settlement rules in their country still apply.
